Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, posted a video message on Twitter Thursday marking the first night of Hanukkah from their “big modern family.”
Emhoff, who is Jewish, noted that he and Harris, who is preparing to become vice president, love the holiday, with Harris calling it one of her favorite holidays because it brings “light where there has been darkness.”
“There is so much work to be done in the world to bring light,” she said.
“It’s about rededication,” Harris said, with Emhoff adding, “And it’s about joy. And it’s about spreading joy around the world with your family, and sharing it with your family and your friends and your neighbors and your community. And that’s important right now.”
The video ends lighting the menorah candles.
Emhoff would be the first Jewish spouse of a vice president or president.
